Top class darts came to Haverfordwest last weekend as ex-world class player and now top Sky Sports’ darts pundit Wayne Mardle visited the local rugby club to take on local players in a brilliant evening of darts.
17 players took on the ex-world champion runner-up, who not only showed his throwing skills but also delighted the packed audience with the way he dealt with opponents who displayed a whole range of abilities.
Worthwhile wait and loads of laughter
Wayne had originally been book for early August but had been delayed en route, but those in attendance were unanimous in their view that the wait had been worthwhile as Mardle also engaged in a question and answer session midway through the evening.
He said that he would be honest in answering questions and there were hoots of laughter as he told tales about a number of characters, many of them great players that were super-interesting as well as informative about the current world of darts!
Lee does well and lucky winners take on The Man

The whole evening was organised by Lee Chenery and there were five local darters who took on Wayne before two ‘lucky ticket’ winners were drawn out of a hat and so Liam Sheehan and Walter Lovell had that treat.
Also chosen to play towards the end of the evening was real darts enthusiast Craig King, who joined Jimmy Wonnacott and Darrell Sheehan as the only players to beat Mardle during the evening.
Shot of the evening – and match of the evening too!
It was Sheehan who helped create the match of the evening as he started with scores of 140 and 180 which Mardle matched before they got down to doubles and it was Sheehan who found the double first.
The evening was made even more enjoyable by MC Richard Ashdown, who isn’t known as ‘Little Richard’ for nothing. One of the highlights of the evening came when Wayne left double three against Declan Coles, not the easiest finish for someone over six feet tall, and called up Little Richard, all 5’4” of him, who drew himself theatrically up to his full height and hit the target first dart!
It just about summed up an excellent evening which was filmed by ‘Videomajic’ and will soon be seen on their web site and available on DVD from Lee Chenery, who played Wayne in the last game of the evening but lost!
Those who took part against Wayne Mardle were:
Barry ‘The Bulldog’ John; Declan ‘Underpuppy’ Coles; Tom ‘Sting’ Wray; Harvey ‘T.N.T.’ Boswell; Michael ‘Ollie’ Osborn;, Liam Sheehan and Walter Lovell; Phil ‘The Farmer’ Harries; Jack ‘Conqueror’ Bevan; Paul ‘Robin’ Hood; Darrell ‘Dizzy’ Jackson; Andrew ‘Winston’ Churchill; Jimmy ‘Six Pack’ Wonnacott; Danny ‘The Doorman’ Boswell; Craig ‘Bowler’ Jones; Craig King; Lee Chenery.
