Ladies Cricket - 2026 Clive Huxley Memorial Cup Semi-Finals

‘Big Guns’ too strong for developing teams

Venue: Imble Lane,  Pembroke Dock
Umpires: Rob Bellerby & Jonathan Twigg
Scorers: Meg Arthur (Cresselly), Amber Rodea (Whitland), Clarissa Lewis (Hook), Roger Stanford (Saundersfoot)

Pembrokeshire Ladies’ cricket enjoyed its own ‘Super Sunday’ pf cricket as both semi-finals of the Clive Huxley Memorial Cup were held the hospitable Pembroke Dock Cricket Club and although relative newcomers Whitland and Saundersfoot battled hard it was the redoubtable pair of holders Hook and Cresselly who will now play in the final (on the 12th July) for the fourth successive season at its traditional home of Stackpole, where Clive played his cricket in this county.

But both defeated semi-finalists deserve every credit for the part they played and the gap between the top teams and newcomers is beginning to narrow!

Cresselly - seeking a third win in four seasons after defeat last year by Hook

Cresselly cruise home with their power batting

Whitland (127 for 4) lost to Cresselly (128 for 1) by 9 wickets

Whitland showed a positive approach from the outset as they won the toss and elected to bat first, with top run-getters Lani Hogben and Angharad Jenkins getting them off to a great start until Lani departed for 27, including three boundaries.

Kelly Evans maintained the momentum with 15 from only nine balls, including two fours and a six, but accurate bowling and tight fielding from Cresselly meant that only Angharad Jenkins was able to build a really big score as she struck five boundaries and a big six in her final tally of 56 not out, made from only 50 deliveries.

None of the Cresselly bowlers received a lot of ‘stick’ but mention missed be made of Ffion Ashman, who claimed 2 for 14) and Mari Cole, who included a maiden in her spell as she conceded only 16 runs.

But the Cresselly batting line-up is renowned for its strength and so it proved as openers Lucy Johnson and Eleri Williams sped past 50 is short time and reached three figures before Eleri was run out for 39 (34 balls, four fours).

But there was no letting up because Ffion Ashman blasted a rapid-fire 18 not out from only 10 balls (three fours) and with Lucy still there for a cracking 56 not out (8 boundaries) Cresselly reached their target in only 16.5 overs.

Holders Hook head for another final

Saundersfoot (75 all out) lost to Hook (76 for 1) by 9 wickets

Saundersfoot were invited to bat first and were under real pressure from the outset as Maisy Davies called upon her wealth of experience as she bowled her four overs and had just one single conceded whilst bowling 24 deliveries, and claimed the wicket of ket Saundersfoot batter J Thomas.

At the other end, Kacey Arran had already shifted another top scorer in M Neye with a good return catch and only opener Talia Ennis ever looked comfortable until she fell to Hook skipper Sam Rossiter thanks to a good catch by Kate Farr, who by then had also clean bowled K Joseph to leave the Seasiders in dire straits.

N Mackay was the only other Saundersfoot batter to mange double figures as Jemma Phillips, Maddie Potter and B Chapman kept the pressure on with their bowling stints, although the final tally was boosted by the inclusion of 27 extras.

Hook suffered an early set-back when Kate Farr, their most consistent batter, lasted only two balls against K Joseph but then Kacey Arran and Jemma Phillips took control in the batting stakes as Kacey rapped five fours and a six with 36 not out (23 balls) and Jemma (23 in 29 balls, including two sixes) raced away alongside 17 extras – and Hook were through after only 8.3 overs.
