Sean Pemberton leads the team onto the Conygar Bridge MeadowCullen Kinsella scored a goal in each half to earn Penybont a crushing three-goal victory over title rivals Haverfordwest County at the Conygar Bridge Meadow under lights on Tuesday night.

This was a must win game for the Bluebirds but come the final whistle it was a comfortable victory for the league leaders who have gone five points clear at the top - Cambrian & Clydach have moved to second above Haverfordwest County who have dropped to third in the table.

Kinsella strikes

Poor defending by the Bluebirds at a corner allowed Kinsella to strike an early blow.

However, Wayne Jones’ team put the visitors under pressure where centre back Sam Rodon was immaculate against his former Bluebird team-mates.

Ben Fawcett was lively up front, and he drew a good save from Penybont skipper Rhys Wilson. Kaid Mohamed played in Jack Wilson but the teenager drove a shot straight at Wilson.

Penybont manager Rhys Griffiths must have felt happy that his team led 1-0 at the interval.

The visitors scored a second goal on 55 minutes, good work down the right from Kinsella and his cross was controlled and finished clinically at the far post by Kostya Georgievsky.

Cracking goal

Five minutes later and the high-flying Penybont scored a third goal to put them out of sight. It was easily the best solo goal of the night, Kinsella ghosting past two defenders before arrowing a low drive into the far corner.

That third goal effectively killed off any hopes the Bluebirds might have had of making a dramatic fightback.

The closest the Bluebirds came to scoring was when skipper Sean Pemberton, marking his 200th appearance for the club, thumped a powerful header from an Elliot Scotcher corner against the crossbar.

New Bluebird signings Scott Thomas and Jake Kelly made brief appearances off the bench and veteran Nicky Palmer also got some game time.

There’s a long way to go before the end of the season, but this positive result for Penybont has certainly put them in pole position for the title!
