Kilgetty AFC are proud to announce that seven of their female players have been signed up to join the County and Pembrokeshire Schools’ Football teams, writes Sharron Hardwick.

Abigail Walsh, Seren Rose and Bethany Rose, of Kilgetty Under 12s, attended trials for Haverfordwest County in October, receiving news that they were selected later that month and they are enjoying county training on Thursday evenings in preparation for their first game.

“I love football so much, I feel proud of myself for making the team. I’m looking forward to learning more skills and taking that back to my club Kilgetty. My Mum is going to be coaching me which I’m really happy about.” said Abigail

Abigail’s Mum, Lizzie said: “As a former player and now a coach for Kilgetty AFC, I know the difference football made to my life as a teenager and so I am super passionate about helping players to develop and reach their full potential."

Twins Bethany and Seren’s dad and Kilgetty AFC Coach, Llewelyn, said: “The girls are delighted and grateful for the input from the Kilgetty coaches; Vanya and I are very proud of their commitment and the effort they put into training and look forward to see how they develop.”

Kilgetty under 10s also feature

Kilgetty Under 10s Seren Williams, Halle Jones, Fallon Graham and Caoimhe O’Neill were also selected for by Pembrokeshire Schools FA on the 22nd October, after attending trials on the 1st October last year.

Seren said: “I felt excited to start playing for Kilgetty Football Club and each week we get taught lots of new skills. I really enjoy playing football each week with all the girls. I was so excited when I got selected to play for Pembrokeshire Schools FA. I enjoy learning new skills and I feel happy when I play football with my team.”

Kelly Asparassa, Seren’s Mum, continued: “It's such a great opportunity for the girls to be able to take part in such a great team sport to gain confidence; seeing them grow in strength and ability week by week.”

Showing her love of the game Halle said: “I love playing football, and enjoy playing for Kilgetty alongside my friends. I was so happy to be picked to play for Pembrokeshire Schools as it means more training and matches, and to play against others around the country."

Lily Cowley, Halle’s Mum, told us: “It's great to watch Halle playing football; when she's playing you can see she's in her element and absolutely loves it. Halle gets a lot of enjoyment out of playing, especially playing for an all-girls team like Kilgetty & Pembrokeshire Schools.”

Fallon said: “I was so happy when my football coach, James from Kilgetty AFC, put me forward for trials. I love playing for Pembrokeshire schools, mainly because I get to train and play lots more football. I’ve also made lots of new friends who love football too.”

The under 10s have already travelled away to play other Welsh regions like Swansea and Bridgend, and they thoroughly enjoyed representing the county.
