Pembroke County Cricket Club Outstanding Youth Players Awards 2023

County Youth Rhys Phelps

The Pembroke County Cricket Club annual awards ceremony is being held at the Neyland Community Centre tonight (Friday) but both the best batsman and bowler in the youth section had been presented earlier because of both recipients having already booked to watching England play New Zealand at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

The County has continued to present the outstanding youth players with the coveted awards and this year’s recipients were Rhys Phelps (Hook) as the top batsman and Cian Rees (Whitland) as the best bowler.

Rhys has scored runs consistently for the Cricket Wales West Region, with a top score 49. He has scored just over 500 runs in League and Cup games for his club this year with a top score of 95 against Haverfordwest 2nds.

Cian also represented  the region with best figures of 2 for 9 and was picked to play in the Best v the Rest of the four regions recently at Crickhowell – and back at his club he has led the way in the 1st team, Under 15's and Ormond youth side. He has bowled 127 overs, with 25 maidens and has taken 29 wickets, with an amazing economy rate of 2.9. He had two five-wicket hauls against Johnston and Llanrhian with his best bowling being 5 for 7.

Congratulations are extended to both boys who have a bright future ahead of them in the game.
Rhys is pictured receiving his award at a recent function, from Joy James, a long-standing member and scorer of Hook at a recent  function.
Cian received his award from the County Chairman, Dave Brandon, at the last County meeting.

PembrokeshireSport.co.uk would like to add our congratulations to both talented teenagers because they are great adverts for their clubs and county – and are sure to do well in the future!
