Two second-half goals by Owain Davies set Prendergast Villa en route to victory in the under 12s final, where teams comprise nine players plus subs, and the goals are pitched on the 18 yard line to reduce the size and focus more on the skills aspects of the game.

And there was skill aplenty on view in both camps so that Villa coaches Adrian Blundell was delighted afterwards by the way his squad had played, whilst opposite numbers Dai Jones and Wayne Scourfield were full of praise for the way that their young charges competed against a team they had lost to by 3-1 and 5-1 in league fixtures.

Tight first half

The first half was a tight affair, with Narberth denied a goal for offside and the Villa hitting the woodwork - and there was no shortage of action as play swung from end to end.

But defences stayed generally on top as Villa played with three men there and Narberth opted for the more traditional back four set-up.

Davies makes the difference

But ten minutes into the second half Prendergast went ahead as Liam Davies set up the chance for Owain Davies to cut inside and plant a low shot into the Narberth net.

At the other end Harry Fuller was denied by Villa keeper Ryan Sinnott, whose long ball downfield was gathered by Owain Davies, who doubled his tally with another well-placed shot.

Both teams had other chances as everyone on both benches were allowed to savour the occasion – but it was Prendergast Villa who finished on top and picked up the silverware as their reward.
