Welsh Squash selection for two of Pembrokeshire’s finest

Two of Pembrokeshire’s finest squash players have been selected to represent Wales in the forthcoming home internationals.

James Walters is manager at Milford Haven Leisure Centre and has been playing his squash in Pembrokeshire for MLC 1 and for Swansea in the Welsh Premier League division one.

Nick Dyer is headmaster at Hakin Community School and Hubberston Primary School and plays squash for Haverfordwest, and also for Swansea, in the Welsh Premier League division one.

Both player have been selected for the over 45’s Masters team, and Nick has been given the added honour of captaining the side as the five players selected will travel to Aberdeen at the end of May to compete in the home internationals.

Hard work pays dividends

The selection process takes place throughout the squash season and is based on tournament results as well as form in the leagues. Both players won their categories in the Bourse Open in July last year; a competition which attracts players from around the UK- and they have also performed exceptionally well in all the other tournaments.

Coach Pete Crook told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk:
“The selection of James and Nick was no shock since both players compete at the highest standard in the Welsh Premier leagues, and they show what can be achieved with commitment and dedication.

“They both train on and off court together and for anyone that has seen these sessions, will know that they train at a pace and intensity that would shock most athletes in many other sports.

“Both James and Nick, even though they are premier players, still support Pembrokeshire Squash by playing in our league. They are both outstanding ambassadors for our sport and Pembrokeshire.

“Well done and well deserved - good luck boys.”
