Volunteer development program creating opportunities for Pembrokeshire's Youth

Young weight lifters

We have been providing excellent opportunities for our younger members to develop and grow as individuals and gain experience from SAW.

Through our volunteer development programme our younger members have developed, become qualified and secured a real passion in their volunteer work and career pathway.

Niamh Roach has completed Level one and two National Governing Body coaching awards, as well as Technical officiating qualifications. When back from University she coaches at SAW, coaching children, adults, those developing fitness and health, sports conditioning, Powerlifting and Weightlifting. Niamh is currently in year one, an undergraduate at Bath University and as well as studying and competing in Weightlifting events, she has been involved in work experience with GB talent rowing squad and GB Skeleton squad.

Louis Thomas has developed a passion for strength and conditioning and he is also in his first year studying as an undergraduate at South Wales University. Louis is studying Strength and conditioning and has dramatically increased his knowledge in this area. Louis has also been busy competing within weightlifting calendar.

Chloe Hood has completed level one National Body coaching awards and is studying Sport Science at Pembrokeshire College. Chloe helps out coaching at SAW, especially with the youth members, she is also one of SAW’s coaches and instructs groups from the local community, guiding them through fitness classes and training sessions.

Alex John is currently studying in his first year at Exeter University and over the past few years has developed into a valued Technical Official.  Officiating at various events around the Country where time away from his studies allows.

Anita Madan has been studying at Swansea University and gives up her spare time to officiate at both local events in Pembrokeshire and National events, when she is not competing herself.

Our volunteers of all ages receive continued support and guidance from the senior volunteers at the centre. The programme has been supported by Sport Wales, Sport Pembrokeshire and the community chest grant scheme.
