Ivybush A do well in Narberth pool league

Ivybush A

When the Ivybush A won the Narberth Pool League's second division the players were absolutely delighted because it meant that could dedicate their success to the late Chris Richards, who was heavily involved with the team and brought several of the players to compete at the popular pub in the town's High Street, which is run by Steve and Sheila Page.

Both mine hosts were also pleased because they had huge respect for Chris and his squad as he insisted on high standards - and they will now play in the top echelon of Narberth Pool after winning 21 and drawing two of their games to finish on 42 points, some four points ahead of their nearest rivals, The Snug Bar.

Leading the team by example was captain Gareth Stephens, who also finished in top spot in the league's final individual table of success, followed in fifth place by Jack Coleman - and all of the team were consistent, however, with Fred Jenkins (7th), Clive Jones (9th) and Mick Haltam (10th).

"It was the sort of performances we needed," explained Gareth, "as each game was played over ten singles for six players, some would play two frames and others one.

"Now we will need to raise our game again when we restart in September and will try to do that in honour of Chris, who was a great influence on his before his tragic death which dismayed all of us."
