2023 SNOOKER - Treble cup joy for Balfour Club

POWELL CUP

Balfour Club - Powell Cup winners

The Balfour Club completed a very successful treble-winning season on Monday night when Simon Pearce and Terry McBride took the Powell Cup doubles title. In the last few weeks the club won the KO Cup and Simon won the singles crown and this win was the icing on the cake for the Haverfordwest club.

There was a scrappy start to the first frame with the Balfour boys sizing out their opponents Keith Williams and Darren Lewis from the Black Rabbit Club. Darren was first in with a 16 break but Simon soon replied with 15. Good safety from Simon forced a mistake and Terry made a 22, and he went on to pot from brown to black to complete a first frame victory.

Singles champion Simon started the second frame with a 25 break and with Terry backing him up the pair soon raced to a 37 point lead. With a large deficit, the Black Rabbit pair were forced to go for some 'adventurous' shots and made mistakes, and the Balfour pair took advantage and ran out easy winners.

In the third frame Darren chipped in with a 16 break to give the Black Rabbit boys an early lead. But former county singles champion Terry soon got in with a 25 break and then played a wicked snooker which forced Keith into hitting the black. The frame was still in the balance on the green and both sides shared the colours up to the black which Simon potted for Powell Cup victory.

Peter Thomas and Mackie King were in charge of the proceedings.

Just like the division two singles match last week, it was nice to see Simon and Terry dressing in the right attire for the occasion.
