Haverfordwest County 4 – Airbus UK Broughton 0

Haverfordwest County gained a convincing victory against relegated Airbus UK Broughton at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium to go four points clear of Phase two.

Haverfordwest County manager Tony Pennock made one change to the starting line-up that won 1-0 at Aberystwyth Town last week, in comes Jamie Veale for Henry Jones in midfield, the latter is moved to the bench, new signing Daniel Hawkins is named as a substitute, plus skipper Dylan Rees makes his 50th appearance for the Bluebirds.

Midfielder Ricky Watts saw red after a clumsy challenge on Crowther, it looked a harsh decision, but once you slide in to a tackle there’s always a risk. Minutes later Ben Fawcett opened the scoring, in the second period Ioan Evans added the second, Jamie Veale scored the third with a stunning free kick, right at the death debutant Dan Hawkins found the back of the net. This earned Haverfordwest County three precious points also gave them crucial back-to-back wins.

Neither side created any clear cut opportunities in the early stages, but the main taking point  came in the 30th minute, when Watts saw red, the midfielder hard touch saw him slide into a tackle to win back possession, but in the process he caught Jamie Crowther, who was left on the floor in a heap, referee Ryan Kenny issued a straight red, so Pennock’s men were down to ten men.

However, six minutes later the Bluebirds took the lead as Jack Wilson low cross across the face of goal was read perfectly by Fawcett who slid the ball home from close range.

Just minutes later the Wingmakers came close to levelling matters when Bradley Knight’s first time volley from the edge of the box flew well over the crossbar.

Fawcett breaks deadlock

Just before the break Fawcett had a couple bites of the cherry without any return as the hosts led 1-0 at half time.

Five minutes after the break the visitors should have equalised when Adam Davies put a header wide from six yards, the striker could not believe his luck, it was a let off for Pennock’s men.

In the 63rd minute the hosts doubled the lead, Fawcett’s low drive was parried by keeper Lewis Dutton, but Ioan Evans reacted quickest and buried the rebound.

Veale scores terrific free kick

Ten minutes later and the Wingmakers were down to ten men as Gareth Edwards is shown a straight red for denying Fawcett a clear goal scoring opportunity. From the resultant free kick, Veale struck a beautiful effort from the edge of the box into the top right hand corner.

In the 88th minute, the Bluebirds put the icing on the cake as Jack Leahy crossed for debutant Dan Hawkins to make no mistake with the fourth.
