Unbeaten League Champions Pembroke Youth

Scarlets celebrate silverware in style

Pembroke Youth 53 - Fishguard & Goodwick Youth 0

Congratulations are due to coach Phil Greenwood and his talented squad of young rugby players at Pembroke RFC as they have just completed arguably the most successful season ever in the Pembrokeshire & District Youth League.

The Scarlets’ Youth have not only won the silverware but remained undefeated through their 14-match campaign and are able to boast of a 100% record and a massive total of 67 points, which means that they have completed 11 of those with a bonus point for scoring at least tries.

And they certainly rounded off their season in style as they entertained an inexperienced Fishguard & Goodwick team at Crickmarren and the game was all over in 36 minutes because the Young Scarlets had raced into a 53-0 lead, passing the 50-point differential between teams that earns them the verdict there and then.

They scored no fewer than nine tries in the process, with centre Kodi Bratcher leading the way with three tries and four conversions for a personal haul of 23 points, whilst full back Keanu Williams used his pace to good effect with a try hat-trick alongside others from hooker Danny Davies, centre Jack Wilkes, and second row Max Boswell.

The Young Seagulls were a shadow of the team that only lost 22-7 to Pembroke at home but conceded early scores to the home side, who rightly celebrated their victory and taking the title, on and off the field!

Llangwm Youth drive forward

Young Otters ease to comfortable win against the Young Wasps

Llangwm 19 - Narberth 41

Narberth enjoyed an excellent away victory at Pill Parks to round off a season where coach Jason Jennings has seen his team develop well after a slow start.

“I’m really happy with their commitment and way they have improved,” he said, “and fair play to Narberth, they pushed us all the way.”

The Young Otters started well and established a 29-0 lead before The Toung Wasps regrouped well and score an excellent try from a penalty tap and go where Kieran Sinclair gained the deserved touch-down, and Liam Miller converted.

After Narberth had increased their score early in the second period Llangwm bounced back with a piece of opportunism from James Hamilton as he intercepted near half way and sped to the posts for Miller to add the simple extras.

Joe Johns caught the eye for the home side with his strong defence and powerful runs in attack, and although Liam Miller missed the difficult conversion of their third try, by Alfie Kehoe, he also had a good game, with some try-saving tackles.

Narberth gained their fifth victory of the season with two tries apiece from winger Harry Williams and No 8 James Thomas, plus others from centre George James, winger Theo Tilley and scrum half Ellis Williams, with three of them converted by Olly Hough.

Tenby spring surprise on Aber

Aberystwyth Youth 18 - Tenby United Youth 19

Tenby United Youth produced one of their best performances of the season after making the long journey to play their counterparts in  Aberystwyth and coming from behind at the break gained revenge for a heavy 43-12 defeat at Heywood Lane earlier on in the season.

Aber scored three tries by Dafydd Llyr Floyd, Dan Davies and Rhys Willetts-Jones, who also notched a penalty – and they had other chances to build a bigger total but good defence by The Young Seasiders saw them also put points together to produce good tries by No 8 Iori Richards, prop Lewis Foster and flanker Jayden Foster, two of them vitally converted by outside half Will Allen to give them that victory by a solitary point.

Small wonder then that coach Mark Heywood was delighted at the turn around in the scoreline, and his satisfaction to see his young players give such a committed performance in the club’s colours!
