Young Welsh cricket team through to the British Disability Finals

Five Pembrokeshire boys have been congratulated for gaining places in the Cricket Wales disability squad - Kieran Williams, Joseph Newton and Ryan Lewis from Haverfordwest CC, William Malone of Saundersfoot CC, and Callum Powell of Neyland CC.

Four of the players – Kieran, Joseph, William and Callum – were in the Cricket Wales team which beat the Isle of Wight in the semi-final of the County Championships at Grantham on Sunday.

The Isle of Wight scored 155 and Cricket Wales - with one ball remaining, the scores tied and having lost nine wickets in the run chase, passed the total with a four to record the narrowest of victories.

Team manager Les is delighted

“This was a marvellous opportunity for the young cricketers and a tremendous achievement for them,” said their manager Les Randall, who is the Cricket Wales Disability Officer.

“They were a very young Welsh side who did very well against an older more experienced team.”

The Welsh side now go on to play Essex in the final, which will take place at Kidderminster Cricket Club on 3rd September.

Development centre places on holidays

Les - in conjunction with Sport Pembrokeshire - runs a development centre in Haverfordwest for cricketers with a disability. The centre is attended by adults and secondary school pupils.

The development centre is starting again this autumn and Les is urging any secondary schools or clubs in Pembrokeshire to contact him if they have players who are interested in playing and developing their cricket, and representing their country.

Les is also hoping to continue the good work in the senior schools of Pembrokeshire including Greenhill, Pembroke, Milford Haven and Haverfordwest.
