Pembrokeshire Indoor Cricket League – Final Week:

Venue: Meads Leisure Centre, Milford Haven
Umpire: Allan HansenTown take 2015 indoor cricket title

Haverfordwest ‘A’ are the new Pembrokeshire Indoor Cricket League champions for 2015 after they maintained their 100% record with an easy win over Whitland.

The Town batted first and amassed a huge 129 for 5 and Whitland could only muster a disappointing 53 all out in response – and only veteran all-rounder Paul Webb played at anything like his best for the Borderers as he scored 38 of those runs and also grabbed two wickets!

The Town were without vice-captain Ben Field but had a useful replacement in off-spinner Clive Tucker, with team captain Danny Potter certainly leading by example as he retired on the compulsory figure of 25 but returning to finish undefeated with a boundary-laden 45 not out.

He was well supported by Simon Holliday (32 before he was run out), Nigel Delaney (18) and Huw Scriven (12) as Paul Webb finished with 2 for 16 and son Matthew claimed 1 for 30 as the only Whitland wicket-takers.

Holliday also claimed 2 for 16 early on alongside spin twin-spin doctor AJ Revu (1 for 8) as five of the Whitland batsmen could only muster eight runs between them and there were eight extras before Webb senior was last out for a typically gritty 32 – leaving Haverfordwest victors by a massive 76 runs.

The trophy was presented by Tony Scourfield, the chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and he thanked Allan Hansen for umpiring, Nicky Evans for his sponsorship of the indoor league, Wendy Bradshaw for organising the competition and PembrokeshireSport.co.uk for its reports and coverage, plus all the teams who took part in the indoor league this season.  He then congratulated Haverfordwest on winning the indoor league this season and presented skipper Danny Potter with the indoor league cup.

*There was an air of anti-climax in the other game played as Neyland ‘A’ were unable to field a full strength team because of their playing at Lord’s  and with Pembroke Dock having only four players. The Dock won easily but both teams failed to meet the indoor league criteria for bone fide games!
