Tough cup exit for battling Vikings

FAW Amateur Trophy – Round 1

Radnor Valley 3 – Hakin United 2

Liam Parks equalised for Hakin with an exquisite overhead kickJoey Price scored a controversial 98th minute penalty for Radnor Valley to earn them a slender victory over Hakin United in a chaotic finish at the Bypass Stadium.

As this tie looked to be heading for a draw the hosts were awarded a penalty which Price coolly despatched and ensure their name went into the hat for the second-round draw – as Scott Davies’ Vikings were bitterly disappointed to bow out of the competition despite putting up a valiant effort.

Hakin’s Matthew Broome picked up a nasty cut following a clash of heads midway through the first half was replaced by Liam Parks.

Price gave the Ardal NE League outfit the lead in the 72nd minute before Scott Ferney equalised with a neat eight-yard finish.

There were three further goals in stoppage time in a dramatic finish, Jack Gittoes put his 2-1 ahead, in the 97th minute Parks equalised with an overhead kick, but a minute later the Vikings’ hearts were broken as Price made no mistake from the spot to pinch the honours.
