Merlins Bridge 0 – Monkton Swifts 4

Hat-trick hero for The Swifts - Billy DavisBilly Davis scored a tremendous first half hat-trick which helped Monkton Swifts a comfortable victory against Merlins Bridge at the Sport Pembrokeshire 3G Ground.

As a result, the Swifts have moved up to third in the table, two points above fourth placed Tenby who still have Hakin United left to play.

Monkton Swifts will play Tenby in the West Wales Intermediate Cup semi-final at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium on Friday, 25th April. The winner of this mouthwatering tie will play Hakin United at the Swansea.com Stadium in May, in an all Pembrokeshire final, the last one was back in 2019 when Merlins Bridge beat Carew to lift the coveted trophy.

The visitors controlled matters in the opening 45 minutes with on fire Davis completing his treble in just 15 minutes as the Swifts led 3-0 at half time.

Seven minutes after the break the Swifts added a fourth goal as Jay Kilby set-up Liam Butland who found the back of Wizards’ goalkeeper Ben Henton’s net.

Matters got worse for the Wizards as they were  reduced to ten men in the 77th minute as substitute  Daniel Pearce picked up two yellow cards after only being on the pitch for 13 minutes.

Despite defeat Bridge manager Mike Preddy overall will be quietly happy his side finished seventh in the table but he knows only too well that there needs to be big improvements if they’re going to challenge for any silverware next season.
