Steffan Williams scored twice to help Haverfordwest County to a thoroughly deserved victory against Afan Lido at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

County manager Sean Cresser will be pleased his team completed the double over the visitors with a workmanlike performance, and it was certainly a good response after had they lost earlier at league leaders Llanelli Town.

Early breakthrough

The Bluebirds opened the scoring early when Elliot Scotcher’s corner caused mayhem inside the Lido box, and Williams drilled home from six yards.

The rest of the first period was rather untidy, with neither side creating a decent scoring opportunity as The Bluebirds led 1-0 at half time.

Ten minutes after the interval and the homesters increased the lead. Greg Walters fed Steff Williams inside the box, the striker turned quickly and fired a first time shot against the inside of the post and the ball rolled across the face of goal for Ryan Thomas to steal in at the far post.

That crucial second goal gave Haverfordwest County some much needed breathing space.

Cracking volley

However, the closest the visitors got to scoring was when Sasha Walters fired a vicious shot from 12 yards well over Conah McFenton’s crossbar.

The Bluebirds grabbed the best goal of the game four minutes from full time. Ricky Watts’ delightful floated ball in the box was met by an exquisite far post volley from Williams to complete to scoring.
