Roly reaches the heights of Shodan Black Belt (First Dan)

The dedication Milford Haven Karate Club stalwart Rowland Adams has shown has been rewarded by his receiving the Shodan Black Belt (1st Dan).
To reach the goal that is considered the pinnacle for those involved in martial arts, Rowland had to show an advanced levels of technical ability, self-defence, and fitness over numerous hours of sparring.
He joined the Milford Haven club more than a decade ago and his commitment has been unwavering; training three times a week, regularly competing on the national circuit and winning numerous Welsh League events in the veteran category.
He has also been appointed as an instructor to assist head coach Kevin John in guiding youngsters at the club.
Kevin paid tribute to the work of his team-mate, saying: “It was a great privilege to see Roly finally achieve that belt. People don't realise that only a small percentage ever get to that high standard. It just shows that anything is possible with hard work and dedication, and that age is just a number.”
He also said the pair were considering continuing on the fighting circuit and competing in high-level events.
