Haverfordwest County 0 – Bala Town 0

 
This game finished goalless, but the Bluebirds showed excellent spirit and character to earn a hard-fought point against gritty Bala Town at the Bridge Meadow.

It’s been a difficult for week The Bluebirds who sit second from bottom in the table after last Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Flint Town United saw popular manager Wayne Jones who announced that he had resigned on Sunday, ending his second spell in charge of The Bluebirds.

On Monday the club had announced via social media that Jazz Richards and Sean Pemberton would be placed as interim managers while a new manager is found and appointed in due course.

Despite no goals this was an entertaining clash as both sides created chances, but neither team could take them.

Lakesiders have effort cleared off goal line

The Lakesiders were desperately unlucky not to open the scoring midway through the first period when former Wales international Dave Edwards unselfishly squared the ball to Ollie Shannon inside the box, the latter took a touch, he shot which beat Lee Idzi, but Jazz Richards read the situation perfectly as he brilliantly cleared the effort off the line.

Just before the break Ben Fawcett got himself in a good position on the edge of the box, but his shot lacked accuracy as it flew high and wide, moments later Elliot Scotcher drilled an 18-yard effort wide of the target.
 

Two excellent Mason strikes

The Bluebirds battled hard and showed a lot of desire and grit with Mason Jones-Thomas showing his promise as he came close to scoring twice in the second period with excellent strikes, but the wide-sided midfielder was denied with decent saves by Alex Ramsay.

The Lakesiders also went close as Paul Rutherford drilled his shot from the edge of the box over Idzi’s crossbar.

Alhagi Touray Sisay replaced Danny Williams with ten minutes to go, the substitute made one penetrating run but was cynically fouled by Johnny Spittle.

The visitors did hit the crossbar late in the game but on the day a draw was probably the right outcome.

“It was an determined performance from the lads, we battled hard and to be honest we didn’t give them that many chances.

“We created two of the best chances in the game despite them hitting the bar late on, but I think a hard-working performance and a draw was the right result.”
