Scarlets beat Blues to celebrate title

Haverfordwest 27 -  Pembroke 57

Josh Atherton claimed a cracking hat-trick of tries for HaverfordwestJosh Atherton claimed a cracking hat-trick of tries for Haverfordwest as proof of his finishing power but the pacy winger still ended up on the losing side against Pembroke, who continued to celebrate their divisional success by running in nine tries after a slow start.

It was Atherton who gave The Blues the initial advantage as he was assisted by Rhys Baker, Karl Busch, Tom Parry and Kyle Williams in scoring two unconverted tries whilst a powerful surge by Cyle Weatherall resulted in Pembroke’s first try in between.

But then The Scarlets surged forward to lead 26-10 as their much-changed side began to gel and there were two good tries from left winger Fraser James and another  by scrum half Iorrie Roberts, all three converted by No 10 Ryan Wilkins.

Toby Smith opened the second half scoring for The Scarlets but then outstanding No 8 Kyle Williams powered over for two Blues’ tries, one converted by Gareth John, as they battled hard up front.

It stung Pembroke into an awareness that they still had a game to win against gritty makeshift opposition and Jamie Brayford added a try – only for Atherton to complete his hat-trick at the other end.

But then Pembroke power proved too much on the run-in and they added further scores by Dom Colman, a second for Weatherall and a special finish from youth team skipper Tom Harding-Jones, playing at full back.
Steve Martin led Neyland to victory

Young All Blacks overcome the odds

Neyland 39 - Laugharne 31

Neyland’s talented young players showed how much they have improved this campaign as they came back to beat third-placed Laugharne after trailing 17-5 at the half-way stage, despite conceding two penalty tries in an eventful second half.

Laugharne held the edge in the first half as they scored tries by Tom Davies (2) and Dorian Harries, one converted by centre Tom Jameson – but whatever Neyland coach Steve Martin said at half time it certainly worked as thy fought back well.

Twins Jimmy and Scott Buirds shared three of them, two of them for Jimmy, with others by prop Luke Dawes, centre Alex Codd and coach Martin, who also rounded off his season in style with three conversions and a penalty.

The All Blacks have some very talented players, and if they can keep them all for next campaign they will be a force to be reckoned with.
