Pembs signs for the 'Old Gold'

Sean Pemberton has signed for Carmarthen Town

Former Haverfordwest County skipper and club coach Sean ‘Pembs’ Pemberton has joined Carmarthen Town in a  signing that will surely delight the ‘Old Gold’s management team of Sean Cresser and Chis O’Sullivan, both former managers themselves at The Bridge Meadow Stadium.

He played for Carmarthen Town Seconds yesterday in a 4-1 win in the Welsh League Reserve Division over their counterparts from Ammanford Town and told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk today that although he felt a bit stiff today he was able to go for a five-mile run around his home in Bancyfelin and is looking forward to his new challenge.

Decision made over breakfast

Sean Cresser“I met Sean and Sully for breakfast last Saturday and after talking to them decided it was time to make a decision as I had other offers from the likes of Llanelli and other clubs – and agreed to play at Richmond Park.

“It is a good move for me because I live quite close to Carmarthen and am looking forward to playing alongside other former Bluebirds like Gregg Miller, Scott Tancock, Ben Steele, Declan Carroll, Kieran Howard, Corey Shephard and Tom Dyson; plus others from Pembrokeshire like Mattie Delaney and Adam ‘Titch’ John.

“I trained on Tuesday evening and know that I need to get match fit again so I’ll give it my best shot and see how well my knees hold out at a lower level than I have played for a while - but know that the skill levels and physical challenges are still things I must face with commitment because I can’t do things any other way.”

‘Old Gold’ manager Sean is delighted

Sean Cresser told us,
“Of course we are delighted to have a player of the calibre of Sean Pemberton to join us because he will also lead by example, on and off the pitch. It is the fourth time that we have worked together, having previously managed him at a local club in Carmarthen, in Newcastle Emlyn, Haverfordwest County and now Carmarthen Town.

“Sully and I tried to sign him at the start of the season, once he had said he was no longer going to play at The Bridge Meadow Stadium, but he decided to give coaching a try there. He told you he had been for a run this afternoon and that was true because I actually passed him on the road in my car – but it was typical of his determinations to get match fit and we are thrilled to recruit a man of his calibre because we know other clubs would have snapped him up!”

Having watched ‘Pembs’ excel with The Bluebirds over the last decade we understand his desire to play but also with a high standard – and we wish him every success with Carmarthen Town!
