Welsh Schools FA Under 15s Competition:
Pembrokeshire Schools under 15s - 4 - Bridgend Schools under 15 - 3
Pembrokeshire put in a very spirited performance, to fend off the strong challenge of their counterparts from Bridgend, completely dominating the first half through their hard work in mid-field and quick counter attacks.
Sharp shooting Pembs
Callum Clark and Sion O’Sullivan were outstanding in the wide positions and Paul Miller and Alfie Stotter looked dangerous through the middle. After a series of near misses Pembrokeshire opened the score through captain Sam Thomas and this was followed by a close range effort from Paul Miller.
County start second half well
Pembrokeshire’s 2-0 half time lead was a good reward for their early superiority and straight after the restart, Alphie Stotter made the score 3-0. Bridgend capitalised through some hesitancy in the middle of the pitch to make the score 3-1, but Jordan White added a fourth and decisive goal for Pembrokeshire with a splendidly powerful shot into the top corner of the goal.
Tense finale
At 4-1 the classy Bridgend team raised their game to produce a period of high excitement for the spectators and two more goals and set up a tense last period of play, but two brilliant blocks by Pembrokeshire goalkeeper Adam Butler and brave defending by Curtis Hicks and Patrick Smith prevented an equaliser, and Pembrokeshire, who had sustained a high work rate throughout, emerged as worthy winners at 4-3 in what had been an excellent match.
Coaches well pleased
Coaches Matthew Price and Bernard Steer were impressed with the overall performance of the whole Pembrokeshire squad, especially at the high work-rate that was sustained throughout.
