Match One: Neyland in overdrive as Cresselly struggle to cope
Neyland (146 for 4) beat Cresselly (39 all out) by 107 runs
Neyland maintained their momentum at the top of the table with victory over a still-inexperienced Cresselly side which has talent aplenty but still needs to come to terms with the intricacies of the indoor game.
It was doubly difficult for The Doves because they were without the experience of skipper Tom Arthur and faced a Neyland team restored to almost full strength with the return of Andrew Miller and Dai Davies, who opened the batting and sped to 60 in the fifth before both had retired without hitting a single boundary but picking up threes almost at will.
The run rate slowed with the arrival of Jack John and Brad McDermott-Jenkins but as they came and went it was skipper Sean Hannon who hit 20 not out from only 10 deliveries – and then Ross Hardy, one of the best-ever exponents of the game but batting at No 6, needed only play a cameo role as Miller and Davies continued with the destruction job already started – and blasting consecutive sixes in the process..
Miller reached 42 (21 balls) before Neill Williams ran him out, and Davies followed, run out by Lewis Jones with 29 from 13 balls – and throw in 14 extras and Neyland had reached their best score so far this campaign, despite the hard work of Lucian Thornton and George Davies with the ball.
Cresselly were clearly daunted by such a target and were shot out for 39 in seven overs, leaving another five untouched, with only George Davies (18) before he fell to Miller. Two of their youngsters were dismissed for a single apiece, looking for non-existent threes, as John, Miller, Hardy and McDermott-Jenkins claimed a wicket apiece.
But Cresselly need not be downhearted because they were playing arguably the best indoor team in the last decade, and if they stick to the task their time will surely come!
Match Two: Patel powers Pembroke to comfortable win
Pembs Seniors A (71 all out) lost to Pembroke (75 for 1) by 5 wickets
Krunal Patel led Pembroke to an easy win over the Seniors A on the back of his exceptional swing bowling, followed by unbeaten knocks from Pembroke openers Jack Harris and ‘Mr Reliable’ Luke Butler, who also kept wicket well as a bonus.
The Seniors A got off to a disappointing start as Andrew Williams and the in-form Nick Daley departed in Patel’s first over for ducks, both unable to cope with his wing as the bails went flying – but Dave Haynes (12) and especially Alan Webstwer steadied the Seniors’ ship but both were run out, with Webster back for a second stint and looking in good form for his 33 runs.
But Mark Hicks and Ian Milsom failed to make an impact and Patel’s three overs gave him figures of 3 for 8 (including four wides) – and it might have been 3 for 7 as a catch went down from his last delivery!
Then Messrs Harries and Butler et off in pursuit, knowing they had plenty of time, until they retired with respective scores of 26 and 27, leaving Will Davies to be bowled around his legs by the canny Ian Milsom, before Callum Davies retuned from his work looking after he giraffes at Folly Farm to join Patell in hitting the winning runs – and with Patel rounding off a terrific personal performance by driving two successive boundaries.
Match Three: Hook too sharp for disappointing Herbie
Hook (71 all out) lost to Hebrandston (74 for 1) by 5 wickets

Herbrandston have looked in good nick recently but they failed to fire on all cylinders as Hook bowled well to restrict them to 71 all out before reaching their target for the loss of one wicket with three overs still left – with 14 year old Charlie Holder leading their attack with three wickets before his dad Matthew, playing at short notice and now well into the veteran’s category, showed there is still a lot of life in the old dog as he topped their batting!
Herbie lost Rhys Power early before skipper Robbie Hood (23) and Keegan Codd (20) restored the balance until both were run out in quick succession – and the other three batsman failed to reach double figures as Holder (Junior) grabbed 3 for 8 in three masterful overs.
Harry Makepeace (1 for 9 in three overs) and Aled Phelps gave bowling support so it was only 24 extras that gave even an air of respectability to Herbie’s final tally.
Then George James (18) and Holder Senior (27 retired) set Hook well down the path to victory before Makepeace and Aled Phillips rounded things off as guest player Keegan Codd was the only Herbie wicket-taker!
