Pembrokeshire Chess Club News
It was great to welcome the Mayor of Milford Haven, Councillor William Elliott to the club to thank him on behalf of the town council for the grant received, which enabled us to buy some more chess sets and clocks to help develop the club. The importance of the grant in getting the new equipment is vital to secure the future of all at the club, writes Junior Coach Martin Jones.
Pembrokeshire Chess Club meets on a Tuesday night at Kensington Court in Steynton with Junior coaching from 6pm to 7pm and seniors from 7pm.
The club are always on the look-out for new members in what is a friendly atmosphere with the chance to play league and competitive chess or just relax with newcomers and existing club members in a casual manner.
The club was delighted to have Alexis Harakis, a Fide master, as our head coach and a role model for our junior members to look up to.
The juniors have come on really well with a number competing in Welsh competitions whilst others just enjoy the game. They have played games against Redhill School, Carmarthen and Castell Nedd, and are shortly going to play against White Knights from Llanelli.
