Lawrenny 2nds 3 – Monkton Swifts 2nds 1

Lawrenny 2nds claimed victory against Monkton Swifts in a highly entertaining final played in excellent spirit at Marble Hall.

Lawrenny2nds took an early lead as the ball fell kindly to striker Kye Bradbury who volleyed viciously into the back of the net.

In the 18th minute Lawrenny doubled the lead, an excellent corner fell to James Phillips who powerfully headed past Swifts’ goalkeeper Scott Trayhearn.

Heroic goalkeeping

Hesquito tipped a long-range shot from Cory Mair over the crossbar, Liam Butland rattled the bar from 12 yards, and Mark Parsons’s bullet header at a corner also crashed off the bar, Liam Butland headed a Jadey Hearn floated free kick in the box inches wide of the target.

Incredibly the score stayed 2-0 to Lawrenny at half time with everything to play for in the second period.
Both sides created scoring chances without success, the best fell to Lawrenny’s Joe Kidney who lobbed Trayhearn from the edge of the 18 yard box, but somehow it agonisingly missed the target.

Stunning strike

However, the Swifts got back in the clash with a stunning goal scored by Conner Roberts, the midfielder broke free on the left and unleashed an unstoppable shot that flew in the top corner.

But five minutes later Lawrenny added a third, Rhys Jenkins sliding home a cross from six yards and there was no way back for the determined Swifts.

Just before the final whistle the Swifts were reduced to ten men when Jadey Hearn was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card on the night.
