Carew 3 - Pennar Robins 1

Carew were delighted they overcame Pennar Robins to march into the final after a hard fought tussle under lights at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Officials Paul Rooney, Sean O Connor and James OlyottA goal either side of half time from Sam Christopher and Shaun Whitfield put Carew in control, but Connor Roberts replied with a cracker, before a late finish by Scott Ferney secured the Rooks’ cup final fate.

Despite heavy rain in the day, the Meadow was in good condition, but both teams found it difficult with the strong gusting winds.

Livewire Nick Willis struck a low shot from distance straight into the arms of Tom Davies.

Robins’ goalkeeper Richard Evans parried Alex Bailey’s stinging shot and Whitfield scuffed his shot from outside the box wide.

Rooks' skipper Iwan Izzard struck a long ranged curling effort straight to Evans as the Rooks were having the better of possession and territory.

Sam scores opener

The Rooks opened the scoring on the 40 minute mark when Sam Christopher controlled inside the box and kept his composure to smash the ball into the back of the net.

A minute later and the Rooks pressed again as Jordan Richards’ rising shot was frantically cleared off the line by Rhys Lucas.

In a tight first half Carew would have felt happy that they led 1-0 at the interval.

Whitfield toe poke

Four minutes after the break and Rooks added their second of the tie, Spencer Williams’ in-swinging corner fell kindly for Whitfield who toe poke home inside the six-yard box.

Sam Christopher broke clear and should have scored but the striker fired his low shot well wide of the target, minutes later and Evans denied Christopher again, this time on the edge of the 18 yard box.

Cracking goal

In the 85th minute Connor Roberts scored a cracking goal from 30 yards out, his right footed effort curled into the far corner of Tom Davies’ net.

On the stroke of full time a neat move led to Ferney slotting past Evans to secure the Rook’s cup final fate.

Carew last won the Senior Cup back in the 1986 when they overcame St Ishmaels 2-1 - and the Rooks last appeared in the final in 2005, when ironically they lost 2-0 against St Ishmaels and it was staged at Monkton Lane.

The Rooks will now meet the winners of the re-arranged semi-final between Merlins Bridge v Monkton Swifts which takes place on Tuesday, March 19th at the Bridge Meadow, kick-off is at 7pm.
