Ladies League Week 2 - 22nd May 2024

Division One:

Finola Scale (Burton)Burton 105 for 4 (17) beat Cresselly 97 for 5 (6) by 8 runs

Burton and Cresselly have for some time been two of the main protagonists in ladies’ cricket and this first meeting of the new season proved to be no exception as both battled hard before Burton eased home by eight runs.

Finola Scale continued her good form as she topped the Burton batting with 26 before retiring, ably assisted by Lily Thomas (retired on 25) and Rhiannon Morgan (22) to end their 20 overs on 105 for 4, despite useful bowling from Lucy Johnson (1 for 23) and Meg Arthur (1 for 20).

Lily then showed what a useful all-rounder she is with a 3 for 18 haul,  as Lucy Johnson (25) and Ava Midgley (25) both retired for Cresselly, who had their chances to win but Burton fielded well to take the verdict.

Jo Price (Haverfordwest)Haverfordwest 68 for 2 (15) beat Pembroke 67 for 5 (6) by 8 wickets

Haverfordwest are another experienced team in the top echelon and they put that to good effect as they gained a comfortable eight-wicket victory over a Pembroke side which never gave up trying but could never maintain a momentum against tight bowling and fielding, with Jo Price leading the way with 2 for 8 as Jamie Moseley (20) and Jodie Lewis (15) were the pick of the Pembroke batters.

But Haverfordwest were also led in the batting stakes by sporting all-rounder Jo Price as she scored 27 before having to retire – and Lynn Ward ended up on 22 not out as she steered her team to victory, despite Pembroke’s best efforts.

St Ishmaels Ladies

Division Two:

St Ishmaels 69 for 3 (17) beat Kilgetty 68 for 8 (4) by 7 wickets

St Ishmaels showed how much they have developed since last season as they proved too strong for Kilgetty and eventually came out on top by seven wickets as they bowled and fielded well to limit their opponents to 68 for 8 and then reached their target with wickets and overs to spare.

Lowis Hughes topped the Kilgetty batting as the only one in double figures on 11 – and Lucy Patterson was the pick of the Tish bowling with 2 for 15.

Then Linzi Picton (24 not out) led the Tish batting and found support from Tracey Chandra (14 not out) in a productive partnership after Lowis Hughes (1 for 12) and Daisy Bland (1 for 13) claimed wickets for Kilgetty.

Angharad Jenkins (Whitland)Whitland 120 for 1 (18) beat Carew 86 for 6 (4) by  34 runs

Whitland are fast developing into a strong young team and were comfortable winners against Carew after they had batted first, put together a commanding score and then kept things tight in the field to prevent Carew building an even bigger score than their solid batting allowed.

Whitland batters Angharad Jenkins (27), Lani Hogben (27) and Mari Kirk (26) all reached the retirement threshold with some excellent running between the wickets and the ability to punish anything loose.

Nia Simes (17) and Jackie Goodwin (15) batted well for Carew as Whitland bowlers Sally Windsor (3 for 10) and Fflur Davies (2 for 14) were their principal bowlers in helping them earn a massive number of points.

Carys Lloyd (Pembroke Dock)Pembroke Dock 128 for 5 (9) lost to Saundersfoot 129 for 8 (17)

There were runs galore in the match between Pembroke Dock, who amassed a huge tally before it was chased down by a committed batting performance from Saundersfoot.

Leading The Dock to a challenging 128 for 5 were Carys Lloyd (retired on 27), Cheryl Hughes (23 not out) and Katie Gibbins (21 not out) as Charlotte Lord (1 for 19) and Talia Ennis (1 for 16) bowled well for The Seasiders.

And Saundersfoot accepted the challenge via Talia Ennis (25 retired), Made Neye (28 retired) and Katie Joseph (17) so that although Carys Lloyd showed what a good all-rounder she is with 4 for 23 alongside Katie Gibbins (1 for 20) and Abbey Price (1 for 17) it was The Seasiders who celebrated victory in an excellent tussle between two committed teams.
