Pembrokeshire referee Kevin Bowen showed what a good match official he is with an outstanding performance as referee of this season’s West Wales Cup Final.

The match featured Penlan (Swansea) and Seaside (Carmarthenshire) in the final at the Lliberty Stadium, with Seaside surrendering a 3-1 lead in the final quarter and Penlan grabbing two excellent extra-time goals to win 5-3.

Assisting Kevin with the flags were another Pembrokeshire official in Dean Boswell, who did so well in charge of our Senior Cup Final, and Wes Neale, with Colin Discombe as the fourth official.

Watching the game was Pedr McMullen, the doyen of local refereeing who has done so much over many years in training all our local refs, and he told PembrokeshireSport.co.uk:

“KevinKevin keeps quiet control of West Wales Cup Final was quietly in control throughout a tough match and the highest praise I could give him was to say it was comparable to a rugby match reffed by Nigel Owens – it was that good!”

High praise indeed from someone who really knows his refereeing onions and there was further good news for Kevin Bowen this week because he joins Tom Bevan in gaining promotion to Level Two, which means both can now take charge of refereeing matches in Welsh League Division One, as well as being assistant referees in Welsh Premier League matches.

Well done to both!
