Haverfordwest County 4 – Ammanford 0

Haverfordwest County clinically disposed of battling Ammanford with four quality finishes in a highly entertaining clash witnessed by a decent crowd at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium on Friday night.

This throughly deserved victory puts the Bluebirds just a point behind leaders Penybont, both these top teams play each other on Saturday, 13th October in Bridgend.

Wayne Jones' team led one-nothing at half time, and they grabbed the game by the scruff in the second half  to score three further goals to run out worthy winners.

The homesters led 1-0 at the break with Fawcett scoring early, in the second period they continued to dominate possession and were rewarded with a brace from Danny Williams sandwiched between Lee Trundle’s exquisite strike. This three-pronged attack is possibily the most potent attack in the league, and Williams is currently the Bluebirds top scorer benefitting from the classy assists of Trundle and movement of the ever maturing teenager Fawcett.

Ben Fawcett was the Bluebirds cup hero – scoring twice in extra timeCracking volley

The Bluebirds opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Ben Fawcett struck a stinging volley.

However, the visitors were unlucky not to equalise when Matthew Fisher was clean through and he threaded his shot past Steve Hall but it struck the upright. Minutes later and Tim Hicks cleared a goalbound shot off the line, and at the other end, Trundle missed a sitter when he controlled and used his trusty left foot to embarassingly sky his close range effort.

The Bluebirds doubled the lead midway through the second period, cedntre back Alaric Jones’ neat ball up front to Trundle who instinctively chested first time on for Danny Williams who ran clear and calmly slotted past former Haverfordwest County goalkeeper Craig 'Hovis' Morris.

Stunning strike

Ten minutes later and Trundle added a stunning third goal, from the edge of the 18 yard box, the former pro curled a fantastic shot into the top corner with Morris rooted inside the six yard box.

Then deep in injury time and another well worked moved ended with Danny Williams banging in his second of the match for goal number four.

"We're moving the ball quicker, and I'm very happy to be honest," said Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones afterwards.

"We're in transition in terms of style of play and it will take weeks to be where we need to be - but I can't ask anymore from the lads."
