Harrison-Allen Bowl 2020 - Umpires and Scorers

Umpires:

Dave BrandonDave Brandon:

This will be Dave Brandon’s fifth Harrison-Allen Bowl Final after he moved here from his native Lancashire, where he played as a wicketkeeper/batsman in the South Lancashire League for many years before umpiring in the Central Lancashire League.

Then he moved to this area with his wife Julie and quickly became established as a highly respected match official, standing in his first Bowl Final in 2002, followed by other appearances in 2006, 2012 and 2016.
He has also officiated at three Welsh Cup Finals and prior to that umpired in India in the fore-runner of the Indian Premier League in front of huge crowds.

Dave is also vice-chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club and chairman of the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Officials.

RobRobert Ridgeert Ridge:

After ten years as an umpire Robert Ridge is rewarded with selection as an umpire for his first Harrison-Allen Bowl Final and it will be fitting reward for his involvement in our county’s cricket, where he is also the Cup Organiser in his work with the executive committee of the Pembroke County Cricket Club.

He has previously officiated in the Alec Colley, Ormond Youth and Alan Brown Cup Finals and should have been involved in the 2019 DR Morris Cup Final on home territory but was injured and so missed out
Rob is also on the committee of the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Officials and involved at Burton Cricket Club, where he played his own cricket after a number of years playing in Bristol and Newport.
His family is also involved at Burton Cricket Club because his sons Dan and Will play for the first team and daughter Anna is in the ladies team which has again reached their final.

Outside of his cricket he and his wife Jill are hugely busy with horses at their Moor Farm complex where show jumping and dressage events are held.

Scorers:

Jayne ColeJayne Cole:

Jayne continues to build on her fantastic list of visits to Cresselly for the Harrison-Allen Bowl Final because this will be her EIGHTEENTH time as scorer with Haverfordwest Cricket Club in this Blue Riband event!

She first took up scoring because of the family commitment whereby her father and two brothers were playing and in the intervening years has not only rarely missed any match but has also helped encourage a number of others to take up scoring.

She not only provides details for a number of pundits but throughout each match provides live coverage, almost ball by ball, of The Town’s games, using her Ipad on the ‘Play Cricket’ web site that covers the whole of Wales and England!

Another huge measure of her commitment comes from the fact that she makes a round trip of almost 130 miles from her home in Briton Ferry to score for Haverfordwest and she will be hopeful that when she drives to Cresselly for this year’s final she will collect her eleventh winner’s medal in the process!

Jayne is rightly held in high esteem by other scorers and indeed players from all around the county!

John Laugharne
John Laugharne:

John is now 80 years young and scoring in his sixth final after his first in 2009. He remembers taking part in a Bowl semi-final with Neyland almost 60 years ago and eventually playing in eight Bowl finals, with four winners’ medals!

He also played in the same number of DR Morris finals as a middle order batsman and has served Neyland sport well for nigh on 60 years, with the terrific support of his wife Jen, since he also played rugby and has been a long-serving administrator with the Pembrokeshire All Blacks. He enjoys being a part of the cricket at Neyland and scores for the county team – and has actually moved from using a blue pen – to a more upmarket writing tool which has four colours!
