Harrison-Allen Bowl 2020 - Haverfordwest CC - Pen Pics

Dai DaviesDai Davies     Aged 36     Railway Worker

‘Dapper’ is in his first season as skipper and will be delighted to have reached The Bowl Final with a team that still has a number of relatively inexperienced players but also with some real ‘game changers’, of which he is one! He was man of the match in the 2014 final and is is one of the best runners between wickets in the county and a very capable stroke player, and can bowl medium pace or spin. He had 41 in the second round and will be aiming to create an even bigger influence on the big day, as well as giving his troops all the encouragement they need in this his ninth final!

Ben Field

Ben Field     41     Sports Development Manager

Ben has been vice-captain for a few seasons as an astute reader of the game but his main contribution comes from the fact that he is a very classy stroke player once he settles into his stride. He has played in six previous finals, the first when he lived in Hook and played there, but will be aiming to provide solidity in the middle order, as he did in a previous round at Narberth with a vital 28 not out that showed his worth for the team.

Simon Holliday

Simon Holliday      46     Doctor

A little short of match practice this season because of work commitments ‘The Doc’ will still aim to play a key role on the big day with his batting and bowling prowess. He has certainly contributed well in his previous five finals as a classy right-handed batsman and canny left-arm slow bowler who was man of the match in 2016 and on his day can tie opposing batsmen in knots. He made his first appearance in the semi-final and claimed 2 for 34 before getting out on 22 looking to hit big for the winning runs. He knows he will be a key target when Neyland bowl at him but he relishes the challenge!

Jack Scriven

Jack Scriven     19     Student

‘Young Scrivs’ has the responsibility of being the wicket-keeper, having taken over the gloves when his dad Huw stepped down and this will be his second final after doing a good job last year. He is also developing his batting skills and is one of a number of younger players at Haverfordwest who has forced his way into selection.

Lee Summons

Lee Summons     30     Tree Surgeon

Lee was delighted to play in last season’s winning final after joining Haverfordwest from neighbours Johnston as a very useful all-rounder who can turn his arm over and take quick wickets as batsmen try to get after him. He is also a deceptively strong hitter and if the chance arises he will be eager to show how much he has developed in the past two years.

Danny Potter

Danny Potter     38    School’s Administration Manager

‘Potts’ was the skipper to hold The Bowl aloft last season and has been an excellent captain for a number of years. He is a very classy batsman who has scored more than his share of runs in his six previous finals. In his two previous knocks this season he has had cameos of 34 and 22 and he is also a useful slip or gully fielder. Is likely to bat in the first three in the final and will be eager to help his side start well in both innings.

Adam James

Adam James     30     Plasterer

‘Jamer’ was the man of the match last season with an amazing performance that produced innings of 86 and 81 after not having batted for about five weeks – monster scores that allowed The Town to overcome a 43 run interval deficit.  His pinch-hitting at the star of the innings gives his team a great start if he stays for long and so far this season he has scored 16, 28 and 62 not out – and his fast, aggressive bowling has seen him claim 2 for 18, 5 for 22 and 3 for 22. He knows there is pressure on him to perform in his sixth final but he’d just smile and say ‘Bring it on’ because that’s the way he loves his cricket!

Archie Thomas

Archie Thomas     21     Student

Archie Thomas is another youngster playing in his second final andwill be eager to impress as a budding all-rounder. His primary role will be to bowl his quick stuff and aim to take early wickets but he could also be called on a strong pinch-hitter if there is a need for late quick runs because he is an excellent timer of the ball and a good straight driver when he’s on form.

Johnny White

Jonny White      19     Domestic Assistant

This will be Johnny White’s first final because he missed out last season when he tried his luck ‘up the line’ at Pontarddulais. Rightly regarded as a teenager with a potential ability for really fast-bowling he rejoined The Town this campaign but has yet to make his mark as effectively as he might and will hope that success comes on his big day!

Clive Tucker

Clive Tucker     48    Parts Manager

‘Tucks’ is one of the ‘legends’ of the club because he has played for over 30 years and this will be his 11th final. At one stage he took a back seat in the seconds but is now doing great things as the elder statesman in the side. In this year’s competition he has already claimed 4 for 10, 1 for 32 and 2 for 25 with his canny off-spin that has tied batsmen down for so long. Amazingly, he was man of the match as far back as 1998 when his large wicket hauls helped The Town beat a very strong Lamphey team.

Simon Williams

Simon Williams     30     Apprentice Plater

Simon is still a key player with the club’s other teams, where he has had loads of success in the Alec Colley and Ken Morris Cup Finals as a left-arm fast bowler who can swing the ball.
He has done some great work in coaching junior teams at county level and this season has taken on the role of first-team coach, with a particular match-day role of getting the players warmed up prior to the start.

Chris Phillips

Chris Phillips     30     Accountant

Chris Phillips is regarded as the ‘Mr Dependable’ of  Haverfordwest Cricket Club because he will play anywhere at any time. He was 12th man for the semi-final and it is likely that he will fulfil that role in the final – but whether he does that or receives a late call-up he will give 100%, as he has always done as a great club man.

Jake Merry

Jake Merry     19     Apprentice process worker

At just 19 years of age this will already be Jake Merry’s second final and he will be useful as a lower middle order batsman who plays shots.  He will set the tone as a very reliable man in the field as he plays cricket with a maturity beyond his years – and is an excellent all-round sportsman.

Huw Scriven

Huw Scriven     47     Process Operator

Huw puts his vast experience to good effect as team manager for the second season after playing one final with Burton and another 11 with Haverfordwest as one of the best wicketkeepers in the county who also scored vital runs when the chance arose.
His role sees him helping Simon Williams with net sessions and the pre-match warm-ups but he is also involved in the changing room; making sure that things go smoothly there. He was a county regular and has an added interest because his son Jack has taken over his role behind the stumps!
