Harrison-Allen Bowl 2017 - Umpires and Scorers

<< Return to the final preview

Trefor Evans

Trefor Evans - Umpire

65 - Retired

Trefor Evans is rightly regarded as a very good umpire who uses his depth of knowledge of the game to good effect in his calm, assured approach to the game in every game at which he officiates.

Trefor had already umpired in three previous finals and also stood in the middle for a range of Duggie Morris, Alec Colley and Ormond Youth finals, although the last-named took some time because his club Whitland were involved over so many years!

Trefor played for many years at Whitland and has also been a brilliant administrator at club and county level, where he is assistant secretary of the county club, and Hon Treasurer of the Pembrokeshire Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers – and was also the umpires’ training officer for a number of years.
Tony Scourfield

Tony Scourfield - Umpire

68 - Retired

Tony Scourfield is the other match official and like his colleague is held in high esteem by players for his quiet approach and air of assurance, backed up by an extensive knowledge of the game earned over many years as a key player with Lawrenny.

This will be Tony’s second final and coincidentally features the same teams, but with a different Whitland umpire then in Hilliard Davies.
Tony has officiated at every competition final and is currently the previous past chairman of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, having previously served as vice-chairman and chairman for three-year periods.

He has also been a good servant of Carew and his three sons: Nick, Rob and Martin have all played well for The Rooks!

Teagan Cartwright

Teagan Cartwright - Scorer

 17 Student

This will be Teagan’s second successive final after she started out with Cresselly by playing cricket for the ladies and offering to score when she discovered that Cresselly first team were without a scorer.

She quickly settled into this important role and has built up a good rapport with a number of other scorers, who are older but have recognised her flair for the role and welcomed her into the fold.

She has done the same thing with the umpires she has to work with – and done a great job as an unofficial club press officer with local reporters who can be a bit of a nuisance sometimes!

John Laugharne

John Laugharne - Scorer

Still mid 70s! - Retired

John is rightly held in huge esteem in Neyland for his all-round sporting involvement over many years and will scoring in his fourth final  after playing in eight Bowl finals, four of them as a winner.

It is typical of John that he turns up every week and does a good job in his unassuming way, and this season has also taken on the role of scorer for the county senior team in home and away matches.

He also played in other cricket cup finals; played rugby for the Pembrokeshire All Blacks and has since been a long-serving administrator with Neyland RFC. He clearly enjoys being a part of the cricket at Neyland – and is very much part of the ‘team’ ethos there!
