Playing another former county champion in John Lloyd, Gareth gained a 3-1 victory in an entertaining final in front of a small but enthusiastic audience.

John looked in good form in the first frame with breaks of 21 and 12, but Gareth came back with an 18 and it was all to play for on the colours before John mopped up the high scoring colours to take the first frame.

The second frame was a scrappy affair with most of the reds on the cushions. With very little in the scores, Gareth potted from the green to pink to make the scores level.

Both players scored well in the third frame without getting any big breaks, but Gareth potted the last red and the colours up to the pink to go one frame up.

Both players made 20-plus breaks in a very tight fourth frame, but John left the black over the middle pocket which Gareth duly put away to win the singles crown.

The referee was Ian Ashworth.
