The first game of the season saw Haverfordwest County gain a valuable draw at Cardiff Met in midweek much to the delight of manager Wayne Jones.

“To be fair we’re delighted to come away with a point, obviously it was a very hard-fought point, but one I think we definitely deserved.” said Jones.

“Thought our defence and the keeper was terrific. The work ethic from midfield and obviously the threat up top, had we taken our chances which we will do in some games this year, we could have been looking at a much different outlook.
 

Game plan worked

“Delighted with a clean sheet. We structured ourselves well and our game plan worked a treat. Just unfortunate not to score, but we gain confidence from the performance.

“We have to be more clinical in front of goal. We may only get limited chances in this league, so it’s important we take our chances.

“But I’m more than happy coming away with a point from a team like Cardiff Met so no complaints and onto Saturday.”
 

Looking forward

On Saturday, Haverfordwest County turn their attentions to a JD Cymru Premier home clash against Newtown – again without fans at the Bridge Meadow Stadium due to the Covid19 pandemic.

But there is a consolation for The Bluebirds supporters who can tune into S4C as the game is being televised live from 5.45pm.

“Totally another challenge, another good opposition, another good test, so from our point of views, we’re really looking forward to it.

“We will detail our information about them (Newtown) between now and Saturday, and we will be hoping for a couple more points.”
