Nathaniel MG Cup 2nd Round

Haverfordwest County 6 – Goytre United 2

Lee Trundle scored from the spot on his debut for Haverfordwest CountyDanny Williams scored four terrific goals alongside one each for Lee Trundle and substitute Ashley Bevan as Haverfordwest County ran out comfortable victors against Goytre United at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium on Tuesday night.

This was a highly entertaining cup tie with both teams going hammer and tongs in the first period.

Early save

Bluebirds keeper Kyle Stuart pulled off a good save with barely a minute on the clock.

The Bluebirds’ defence consisting of Martyn Carroll, Leon Luby, Alaric Jones and skipper Sean Pemberton were kept on their toes by United’s Sam Johnson and Zac Brown.

Tom Dyson and Elliot Scotcher didn’t find much space in midfield as they were quickly closed down by the visitors.

However, the homesters finally broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, Jack Wilson’s wicked cross in the box was met by Williams, the striker took one touch before hammering the ball past Luke Martin. A couple of minutes earlier and Nicky Palmer missed a sitter from inside the box.

On the stroke of half time and the Bluebirds doubled the lead, Trundle’s neat flick-on fell kindly to Williams who coolly slotted past Martin.

A minute after the interval and visitors pulled a goal back following some slack marking. Johnson’s low header fell to centre back Corey Francis who toe poked home.

Minutes later and Trundle buried a low edge of the area shot to give his team a 3-1 cushion, but once again United hit back with a close range finish by substitute Tom Walters.

Hat-trick for Williams

Trundle cleverly set-up Williams for the fourth, the striker finding the roof of the net to give his side some breathing space.

The Bluebirds brought on Ricky Watts for Pemberton at centre back and Ashley Bevan replaced Tom Dyson, and the fresh legs really took the sting out of United’s tail with the introduction of these fresh legs.

Bevan bangs in sixth

Earlier, Fraser Finlay replaced the lively Jack Wilson as the Bluebirds continued to press forward.

Trundle put Williams through for the fifth; a terrific cross from the right was met with an instinctive far post finish by Bevan for the sixth to wrap up the tie.
