Fawcett fires three in Bluebirds’ bonanza
Pre-season football:
Haverfordwest County 7 - Goodwick United 1
Venue: Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium
Referee: Sean O’Connor
Assistants: Angus Scourfield & Bradley Flood

New signing Ben Fawcett grabbed a hat trick as Haverfordwest County continued their Welsh League preparation with a 7-1 win over Goodwick United at The Conygar Bridge Meadow tonight.
The lively Fawcett, who only completed his move from Hakin this month, was clinical as he was joined on the scoresheet by fellow new signing Jack Wilson, Elliot Scotcher, and Dan Williams (2) - all after Llyr Tobin had nodded the Phoenix Boys into an early lead.
Good start for Goodwick . . .
In nigh on perfect evening conditions and on a superb playing surface, it was the Pembrokeshire League side who struck 15 minutes in when Luke Raymond's corner was met by centre back Tobin - who made no mistake with his close-range header.
The Pembrokeshire and West Wales’ champs looked at home as they played some neat football and were clearly not going to lie down easily under Wayne and Chris O’Sullivan, with strong tackling in midfield, keeping a clean scoresheet until just after the 30-minute mark.
. . .But The Bluebirds bounce back with three before the break
But then the Bluebirds levelled with a goal made in Hakin - as Matthew Broome teed up another former Viking in Wilson with a superbly-weighted diagonal pass, and the youngster showed good close control before he fired high into Casey Walters' net.
And then Sean Cresser's side really got hold of things in the final five minutes before the break, scoring twice.
Wilson was again involved as he was adjudged to have been bundled over at the back post by a combination of Rowan Nicholson and Scott Delaney - with Elliot Scotcher beating Casey Walters with the subsequent penalty and then it was Fawcett who made it 3-1, tapping into an empty net from Wilson’s low ball across goal.
One-way traffic
The second half was one-way traffic and substitute Tom Dyson won a second Haverfordwest penalty as he was taken out by Goodwick keeper Walters, but the keeper made amends by saving Antonio Facciuto's badly-placed spot kick with his feet.
But Fawcett was beginning to revel in the wide-open spaces as the Bluebirds pushed forward at pace - and twice he made no mistake with low finishes when clean through to complete his treble.
Dan Williams entered the fray and soon made it 6-1 with a low left foot shot into the bottom corner - and the forward grabbed a second when his precise long range finish beat a stranded Walters and found the net.
It rounded off a worthwhile 90 minutes for The Bluebirds ahead of a tougher pre-season test against Aberystwyth on Saturday, 2.30pm at The Meadow.
Goodwick meanwhile, will now turn their attention to their remaining summer games, including the annual John Bailey Cup at Phoenix Park early next month.
