Taffs Well 0 – Haverfordwest County 1

Ben Fawcett grabbed a second half winner to give Haverfordwest their first win in four starts against Taffs Well at Rhiw’r Ddar.

In an entertaining tussle the Bluebirds broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, Fawcett latched onto a ball over the top showed good composure to round keeper Rhys Jones and finish from a tight angle.

There were eight players aged under 21 picked for the Haverfordwest County squad as manager Wayne Jones gave youth an opportunity at playing at this high level.

Midfielders Elliot Scotcher and Tom Dyson were both missing from the Bluebirds starting line-up following the 0-0 draw at home against Port Talbot Town last Saturday.

The vastly experienced Nicky Palmer and Steffan Williams both started in a game where the Bluebirds had an eye on sealing three points against the third from bottom in the table outfit.

The Bluebirds nearly got off to a dream start as Steffan Williams found the back of the net with barely a minute on the clock, the striker latching onto Wilson’s parried shot, but was correctly disallowed for offside.

Flashes shot wide

Minutes later and Kieran Proctor struck a low shot just wide of the target, Jason Bertorelli failed to score with a one-on-one with Kyle Stewart, the striker flashes his shot wide.

Jones pulls of a good save to deny Tim Hicks’ header from a Harry Rowe cross.

Bluebirds skipper Sean Pemberton had a firm header cleared off the line from another good delivery from defender Rowe.

Just before the break and the lively Bertorelli turns Hicks and drills his firm shot agonisingly wide.

After the break and Jones pulls off a smart save to deny Fawcett. At the other end Bertorelli struck a sweet half volley just wide.

The visitors had a strong penalty appeal turned down whilst Elliot Thomas' goal bound shot was deflected for a corner.

Jake Merry put in a tremendous last-ditch tackle to deny Bertorelli getting his shot away.
