Haverfordwest County 1 – The New Saints 3

Dan Hawkins - scored a late consolation goal for Haverfordwest County in dfeat against champions The New SaintsChampions The New Saints gained a comfortable victory over Haverfordwest County in the final league game of the season at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Craig Harrison’s The New Saints' outfit controlled matters as they deservedly bagged three second half goals as  Zack Clarke scored the opener, the visitors scored two further goals through Adam Wilson and Ryan Brobbel before Dan Hawkins scored a consolation late goal for the home outfit.

Tony Pennock’s Bluebirds have finished the season in a record-breaking third position in the table, now they have qualified for a place in the European play-offs.

The difference between the two teams was the visitors a fully professional outfit had quality up front when they created a chance they scored, however, the Bluebirds played well but they just lacked that clinical edge in the final third, but full credit they’ve had a superb season now they need to take some good form in the play offs to try and bag a place in Europe.

The hosts started brightly as Ben Ahmun glanced a header from inside the box  just wide, minutes later Lee Jenkins’ headed on a free kick which somehow evaded everyone inside the box.

Ifan Knott pulled off a good save to deny Josh Pask with a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box, minutes later Jack Bodenham headed against the crossbar from a corner as it remained goalless at the break.

The visitors turned on the pressure in the second period as Zack Clarke opened the scoring in the 55th minute, just four minutes later substitute Adam Wilson added his side’s second, minutes later Knott pulled off a fine save to deny Pask at his near post.

Skipper Dylan Rees found the back of Connor Roberts’ net, but it was frustratingly chalked off for offside, three minutes later Ryan Brobbel scored his side’s third goal – in the 89th minute Daniel Hawkins grabbed a consolation goal for Haverfordwest County – but it was a classic case of too little too late for The Bluebirds.
