Bluebirds win on the road to seal runners up spot in the table

Greg Walters works hard in central midfieldHaverfordwest County finished their season on a high by comfortably winning at Caerau Ely and sealing the runners up position in the league behind champions Llanelli Town.

The Bluebirds led 1-0 at half time, following a well -worked move that saw Ricky Watts win possession on the edge of the box, the midfielder threaded a pass to Elliot Scotcher, then the latter set-up striker Greg Walters, the striker neatly tucked home past former Bluebird Scott James.
 

Great save


Shortly after the break and the home side were denied an equaliser, when young Bluebirds’ goalkeeper Nick Jones pulled off a tremendous save when he tipped a vicious shot onto the crossbar.

The visitors took a two-goal lead curtesy of assistant manager Tim Hicks’ header from a Fraser Finlay cross.

The team from Cardiff pulled a goal back through a header, but the visitors had the final say when they added a third goal and ensured of three points to secure second spot in the table.
 

Finlay strikes


Walters cleverly assisted substitute Finlay, the youngster showed maturity beyond his years as he slotted past the advancing James.

Manager Sean Cresser and assistant Tim Hicks, plus Mikey Ellis can feel well pleased with the runners up finish after a long hard season, and knowing there is plenty to build on for next season’s campaign.
