IT turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for Haverfordwest County who failed to score and had to be content with a goalless draw with Monmouth Town at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.
The Bluebirds suffered a 1-0 defeat at Aberbargoed Buds on Wednesday night, Scott Armitage scoring an 85th minute winner and securing a surprise Welsh League Cup victory for the Welsh League Division Two outfit.
On Saturday, the Bluebirds failed to score against the Kingfishers, and drop another two points at home much to the disappointment of the home fans.
Lacked a cutting edge
The homesters shaded the game possession and territorially, but lacked to find the cutting edge in front of goal.
Nicky Palmer, Greg Walters and Charlie Davies all tested the visitors’ goalkeeper Asa Kirkland without success, just before the break and Bluebirds’ young keeper Nicholas Jones tipped an edge of the area drive from left back Luke Cleaves over the crossbar.
Good save
In the second half, Jones pulled of a good save diving down low to his left to deny Elliott Ford.
Midway through the second period and the Bluebirds should have taken the lead, substitute left back Alaric Jones’ cross in the box was met by Palmer who guided his header into the danger zone, only for Walters to wastefully volley his shot way over the bar.
Late in the game Palmer struck a low edge of the box shot just wide of the target, Joe Leahy missed two great headed chances inside the box, summing up the poor Bluebirds’ afternoon.
