JD Cymru Premier –Conference Play-off:

Haverfordwest County 0 – Flint Town United 0

Both teams settled for a goalless draw at a sun-kissed Bridge Meadow Stadium.

The score line suggests a close encounter with no chances at goal, but the Bluebirds had some decent chances in the first period they didn’t take also Flint were also unlucky not to break the deadlock.

In their two previous encounters between both teams this season, the Bluebirds won 2-0 in north Wales and at home they were beaten 3-0.

Wayne Jones’ men have suffered heavy defeats in their last two outings, so to keep a clean sheet in this clash at home plus pick up a point is a positive result.

The hosts have not been at their best, it was important that the squad played better, they certainly did on a firm Bridge Meadow surface.

The return to the starting line up of Jack Wilson was a bonus for Haverfordwest County, there was also a return of skipper Sean Pemberton at the heart of defence.

Early chance

Alex Jones headed wide from an early corner for the visitors, Wilson nearly made the dream comeback as he struck a vicious effort against the crossbar.

Minutes later saw Ben Fawcett and Wilson combine, the latter’s low drive is well saved by Rushton. Elliot Scotcher fires a decent drive from the edge of the area over the bar.

Danny Williams flicked the ball into the path of Kieran Lewis who crossed low, but the danger was cleared before Fawcett could get on the end of it.

Best scoring chance

At the end of the first period the hosts created their best scoring chance. Scotcher sends the ball into the box, Wilson flicked on to Fawcett, the striker lifted the ball over the defender, fired over the bar.

Shortly after the interval, defender Danny Summerfield cleared Jordan Buckley’s near post header off the line. Minutes later defender Trystan Jones put in a brilliant block to deny Buckley.

Buckley’s ambitious bicycle kick flies over the bar, Wojciech Gajda pulled off a superb save to deny Alex Jones opening the scoring. In added time Amis headed straight to Gajda, as both teams had to settle for a point.

Haverfordwest County's Danny Williams and Elliot Scotcher both picked up yellow cards and will miss the next game.

On Tuesday, 27th April, Haverfordwest County entertain Cardiff Met at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Haverfordwest County manager Wayne Jones:

“It was a rather scrappy game to be fair.

“I’m happy we kept a clean sheet and earned a valuable point after two horrendous results.

“We created the better chances in the first half but have to confess they did better in the second half and could have nicked a late winner.”
