Welsh Cup Round 3:

Haverfordwest County 3 – Pontypridd Town 0

Haverfordwest County progressed in the Welsh Cup after they overcame Pontypridd Town at the Conygar Bridge Meadow.

The Bluebirds beat the visitors earlier in the season 10-1 in ta league tussle, but this cup-tie proved a far tougher game for Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds.

Goals by Ben Fawcett, Elliot Scotcher and Ashley Bevan sealed a sweet victory.

Midway through the second period and Bluebirds goalkeeper Steve Hall took a heavy knock after falling awkwardly and left the pitch looking a bit dazed and he was replaced by Kyle Stuart.

Debutant Kaid Mohamed struck the post with a second half headerStriker Kaid Mohamed looked dangerous on his debut where he linked up well with Fawcett, Danny Williams and Bevan.

Mohammed has previously played for well-known English League clubs such as Swindon Town, AFC Wimbledon, Cheltenham, Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town.

Fawcett bags opener

Fawcett struck the opener just before the interval, the teenager turning quickly inside the box and firing a low drive in the bottom corner.

After the break, and the visitors were unlucky not to level matters as Gavin Beddard’s powerful header was well saved by Hall.

Mohammed headed against the foot of the post from an Elliot Thomas cross; he was really unlucky not to score on his debut.

Sean Pemberton sent a towering header from a corner just over the crossbar, but in the 5th minute the Bluebirds added a second goal.

Scotcher strikes

Midfielder Scotcher struck a vicious shot from 30 yards that took a deflection off a defender and wrong footed David Burnett.

Again the visitors squandered a decent chance as Andrew Smith fired wide and Gareth Hole also dragged his shot wide from inside the box.

Haverfordwest County put the cup-tie to bed when they grabbed their third goal of the afternoon. Danny Willliams low cross from the right fell kindly for Bevan to slide in at the far post and find the back of the net with a terrific left foot finish.

Next Saturday, Haverfordwest County travel to Pontypridd Town in a Welsh League Division One clash.
