Haverfordwest County slipped to their second defeat in a row, following a disappointing performance at the hands of Cambrian & Clydach.

Richard French scored twice - and a howler by Bluebirds keeper Conah McFenton completed the scoring on the 3G surface.

Despite this disappointing defeat the visitors are still a point clear at the top of the table, second placed Llanelli have two games in hand.

There were only two games played in the Welsh League First Division, the rest were postponed due to the treacherous weather.

It was an extremely wet afternoon and in a tight first period which saw both sides hit the post in as the score read 0-0 at half time.

Harsh penalty

However, the tide went in Cambrian & Clydach’s favour in the second period when they were awarded a controversial penalty for deliberate handball in the 65th minute that French made no mistake from the spot.

Matters got worse for Sean Cresser’s team when goalkeeper McFenton squirmed a ball into his own net for the home outfit’s second goal.

French strikes on break

As the Bluebirds pressed hard in an effort to get back in the game, the homesters broke clear with a counter attack and French drilled home his side's third from inside the box.

Cresser told Pembrokeshiresport.co.uk shortly after the final whistle, “The penalty was a really harsh decision, and Conah’s own goal put us two-down, and as we pushed to get a goal back they hit us clinically on the counter attack with a third.”

Next Saturday, February 17th, Haverfordwest County will be looking to return winning ways when they have home advantage against Penybont.
