Under 16s Cup Final:

Prendergast Villa 4 - Tenby 0

Two goals apiece from sub Alfie Stotter and striker Travis O’Connor earned Prendergast Villa victory the under 16 cup final against a Tenby side which never stopped battling in an entertaining tussle.

Stotter came on after 30 minutes, as coach Matt Hughes used his squad strength well, and made an almost immediate impact as he stepped up to take a free kick outside the Tenby penalty area and fired the ball over the defensive wall and into the top corner of Callum Jocelyn’s net.

It was a finish to grace any final and seemed to knock some of the stuffing out of a Tenby team in which Max Brindley and Toby Poole had played well in midfield and strikers Carl Gwyther and Jack Tucker looked sharp up front.

Villa turn the second half screw

But Villa keeper Charlie Hughes and his back four of Javed Hussein, William Goffin, Andrew John and George Ruloff gradually tightened their grip on matters and in the second period O’Connor doubled the lead after good work by Ryan Gosling, skipper Karl Bates, Lucas George and Archie Thomas.

Still Tenby tried to claw their way back but O’Connor killed off their hopes of a come-back with his second well-taken strike that gave Jocelyn no chance in the Tenby goal.

Stotter rounded off the scoring with his second goal before skipper Bates received the trophy from Phil Devonald, the president of the Manderwood’s Pembrokeshire League, and the Villa players celebrated with coach Matt Hughes and their delighted families.
