Haverfordwest County 3 – Llanelli Town 1

Goals from Greg Walters, Joe Leahy and Nicky Palmer earned Haverfordwest County a thoroughly deserved victory, which kept their unbeaten record intact over high-flying Llanelli Town at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

The Town came to the Meadow with a played five, won five, record, but after 90 minutes they travelled back to Stebonheath Park tasting their first defeat of the season.

Early goal

Midfielder Dan Williams played well for The BluebirdsThe homesters broke the deadlock early when Reds’ goalkeeper Scott Coughlin flapped at a cross and the ball fell invitingly for Walters who took a touch and finished clinically from inside the box.

The Bluebirds were good value for their one-goal half time cushion, five minutes after the interval and Leahy bagged the second, a cross by Dan Williams fell invitingly for Leahy inside the box, and the striker smashed home a 12 yard volley.

Reds score

The visitors pulled a goal back through Liam Samuel, the Bluebirds defence switched off and Samuel struck from close range.

Sean Cresser and Tim Hicks’ Bluebirds had a five minute wobble, keeper Connah McFenton denied Reds skipper Joe Clarke, and Samuel dragged an edge of the box drive inches past the post.

Hicks replaced goal scorer Leahy up front and his wealth of experience helped settle matters down for at the time for the home outfit looked nervous and vulnerable.

Palmer strikes winner

The Bluebirds finally put the result beyond doubt when they added a well worked third goal in the 75th minute, Dan Williams’ deep cross from the right was nodded back on the by-line by Steffan Williams across the face of the box, where veteran midfielder Nicky Palmer planted a crucial eight yard volley in the far corner, and that third goal signalled no way back for the visitors.
