Ammanford 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Ten-man Haverfordwest County came from behind to secure victory at Ammanford on a glorious summer’s evening.

The Bluebirds had the better of possession, but the hosts gave the Welsh Premier outfit a tough workout.

Spot on

The home outfit took the lead in the 13th minute when Bluebird’s keeper Lee Idzi was beaten with a well taken spot kick by Whitmore.

However, five minutes later the visitors were awarded a penalty as Jones-Thomas was fouled inside the box, up stepped Elliot Scotcher who struck his effort well, but the keeper Craig Morris did superbly to save it.

Bluebirds new signing Patten picked up a knock and was replaced by Tancock in defence.

Scotcher made amends

The visitors levelled matters in the 43rd minute, Henry Jones’ pinpoint cross allowed Scotcher to finish neatly at the near post, making up for his earlier penalty miss.

Shortly after the break the lively Henry Jones fired a shot agonisingly over the crossbar.

Visitors take the lead

In the 51st minute the visitors took the lead when Jack Wilson was fouled but the referee played good advantage, it allowed Henry Jones to place an accurate cross to Mason Jones-Thomas to drill in from close range.

The Bluebirds were controlling matters with the impressive Henry Jones pulling the strings in midfield.
Corey Shephard picked up a yellow card for cynical foul, manager Wayne Jones used rolling subs throughout the second half.

Wilson fired high and wide after getting on the end of a clever Lewis cut back.

The visitors were creating some half decent chances as Thomas pulled back to Kurtis Rees who drew a good save from the Ammanford keeper.

Ben Fawcett was forced off after taking a heavy tackle, but in the 84th minute Dylan Rees was shown a straight red card for taking out the last man.

Down to ten-men the Bluebirds held firm for the remainder to secure their first pre-season win from two starts.

Manager has his say...

Manager Wayne Jones:

“There’s still a lot of work to be done before we get fully match fit.

“The lads got to get sharper, and we need to increase our fitness levels, but that should come with more game time.

“I felt we controlled the game tonight, but we need to be taking our chances, but overall, I’m pleased with the squads wholehearted efforts.”

Haverfordwest County: Idzi, D Rees, Patten, Watts, Summerfield, K Rees, Shephard, H Jones, Wilson, Fawcett, Jones-Thomas.

Subs: Wojciech, Lewis, K. Rees, D. James, M. George, S. Tancock.
