Seasiders stun Bluebirds with injury time winner at Park Avenue

JD Cymru Premier:

Aberystwyth Town 2 – Haverfordwest County 1

Aberystwyth Town grabbed a dramatic 93rd minute injury time winner through Louis Bradford to secure victory against Haverfordwest County at Park Avenue.

Jamie Reed struck a stunning volley just after the break, but eight minutes from full time Ben Fawcett equalised; then deep in injury time the Bradford bagged the winner to break the Bluebirds’ hearts.

It was a cruel blow for the visitors but overall, it was no less than  the battling Seasiders deserved on the night.

During a goalless first period it was the hosts who shaded it. Reed dragged his shot agonisingly wide, and minutes later Bluebirds’ skipper Ricky Watts received a yellow card for scything down Marc Williams.

At the other end, Daniel Summerfield made good ground down the wing when his low cross evaded Marcus Griffiths, who was unlucky not to get on the end of it.

On the half hour mark a dangerous breakaway led to Reed drawing an excellent save from Wojciech Gajda and neat play between Jon Owen and captain Marc Williams, saw the latter volley just past the post.

Minutes before half time the Bluebirds could have taken the lead when defender Trystan Jones powerfully headed over the crossbar.

In the 54th minute debutant Reed struck a superb left foot volley past Gajda which gave the Seasiders the lead.

Two minutes later former Wales international Jazz Richards was introduced for his debut for the Bluebirds, replacing Kurtis Rees in midfield.

On the 70-minute mark, goal scorer Reed missed a sitter when he was set-up with an unselfish square ball by Williams inside the box.

In the 82nd minute the visitors equalised as Corey Shepard’s teasing cross was met by Ben Fawcett who drilled home from close range.

Deep in injury time the Bradford fired home the winner to secure three precious points for Aber, leaving the Bluebirds' players feeling bitterly disappointed that they didn't get at least a share of the spoils.
