Haverfordwest County 1 – STM Sports 4

Two-goal hero Calum BatemanHaverfordwest County slumped to an extremely disappointing defeat at the hands of Cardiff based outfit STM Sports who finished clincally at the Bridge Meadow.

The visitors knocked The Bluebirds off their table of the table perch as they slipped down to second, thanks to a double from Calum Bateman and one each for Ben Ahmun and substitute Josh Graham.

Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds were stunned as they conceded a soft opener in under a minute from Bateman, the front man slotting past Steven Hall.

Ben Fawcett had a close-range shot parried by Sports’ keeper Exauce Dimonekene, and Jack Wilson saw his goal bound rebound blocked by a defender, just a minute later Fawcett cut in from the right and his well struck shot cannoned off the post.

Just before the break, Hall pulled off two stunning saves in succession to deny Thomas Burridge from an edge of the area direct free kick and then the keeper got down low to his right to deny Marcus Jones.

But the Sports added a second as Ben Ahmun deftly clipped the ball over Hall from a tight angle to give his side a 2-0 cushion at half time.

Assistant manager Tim Hicks pulled one backAfter the break Elliot Thomas replaced Jack Wilson and five minutes later Scott Tancock came on for Jake Merry as The Bluebirds pressed hard to get back in the game.

Harri Rowe volleyed high and wide for the hosts, and then Wayne Jones’ outfit pulled one back, Fawcett’s clever clip over Dimonekene saw assistant player boss Tim Hicks react quickest as he followed up to stab the ball home.

This gave the hosts a glimmer of hope of getting back in the game, but it worked the opposite way as twice the Bluebirds got caught throwing too many men forward, and twice they were punished as Bateman added the third and then substitute Graham swept home from inside the box.
