Pontypridd win to leap-frog Bluebirds in table
JD Cymru Premier
Pontypridd United 2 - Haverfordwest County 0
Pontypridd United gained a thoroughly deserved victory against ten-man Haverfordwest County at USW Sports Park.
The Dragons scored a goal in each half through Joe Hunt and Jack Karadogan to secure the three points, as a result The Dragons have leap-frogged the Bluebirds to move up eighth in the table.
Tony Pennock played an unchanged Haverfordwest County team that won 3-0 at home against Aberystwyth Town last week, this game also marked Rhys Abbruzzesse’s 50
th game for the Bluebirds.
In the tenth minute The Dragons opened the scoring as man of the match Hunt headed home a cross on the rise inside the box which flew in the top corner of Ifan Knott’s net.
Midway through the first period the hosts had an effort disallowed as Luke Cummings found the back of the net, but in the lead up he fouled Aidan Macnamara.
The second period got worse for the visitors as they were reduced to ten-men as midfielder Tyrese Owen picked up a second yellow as he got involved in a spat with former Bluebird Kieran Lewis.
The Dragons put the result to bed as they scored their second of the afternoon, Hunt’s teasing byline cross was met with a sweet left-footed strike from Karadogan from inside the box so there was no way back for the disappointing Bluebirds.
