Connah’s Quay Nomads 3 - Haverfordwest County 0

Callum Morris scored two first half goals to help ease champions Connah’s Quay Nomads to a routine victory against Haverfordwest County at the Deeside Stadium on Easter Monday.

Morris’ double, plus Declan Poole’s stunning strike in the second period, secured three comfortable points for The Nomads, and incredibly the champions didn’t concede a goal in Phase Two at Deeside.

Haverfordwest County were forced to make one change from the starting line-up that beat Barry Town United 2-0 on Good Friday, the crucial victory securing Welsh Premier football next season as two-goal hero Jordan Davies was not able to play against his own club, so Jack Wilson started.

News on Alhagi Touray Sisay, who was also missing from the squad due to injury; the Bluebirds’ top scorer with eleven goals will miss the rest of season as he dislocated his shoulder late in the game against Barry.

The visitors trailed 2-0 at half time, Nomads’ skipper Callum Morris scoring twice, firstly  from the spot and secondly, he got on the end of a well-worked move to put the champions in control.

In the 30th minute the hosts took the lead when Danny Holmes' long throw into the box caused mayhem as the ball struck Ricky Watts on the arm and referee Cheryl Foster pointed straight to the spot. Up stepped Morris to confidently sent Lee Idzi the wrong way.

Morris equals goal scoring record for Nomads

In the 44th minute Morris grabbed his second of the game, so he has now equalled Mike Wilde’s tally of 81 league goals for Nomads in his 245th competitive start. It stemmed from a corner where Byron Harrison headed it at the back post across the face of goal. Morris reacted quickest as the alert striker stabbed home on the goal line.

In the 57th minute The Nomads put themselves 3-0 ahead thanks to a stunning strike from distance by Poole which flew into the top corner of Lee Idzi’s net.

The Nomads were well in control throughout the match, which is something that Bluebirds’ manager Nicky Hayen will be working on to address the gulf against the top sides next season.

Haverfordwest County play their final Phase Two game of the season as they entertain Cardiff Met at the Bridge Meadow Stadium on Saturday, 23rd April, kick-off 12.45pm.
